Hi All,

We went out last weekend to witness the first sea trials of the Charles W. Morgan. A great time was had by all! If you are lucky enough to be able to get out on the Sound tomorrow, 6/11 or Thursday, 6/12, I highly recommend you try to get out there.

If it goes like the earlier trials, she'll get a tow out to the area approximately 3 miles southeast of Fishers Island in Long Island Sound. On Saturday and Sunday, they were out there from before noon until between 2 and 3 PM.

Next Saturday, 6/14/14, weather permitting, the Morgan will start her "38th voyage" stopping at various ports between New London and Boston this summer before returning to her berth at Mystic Seaport. I hope I can catch her along the way a few times also. See you out there!

Fond memories of being aboard her when I was a kid.

I wonder what the crew is comprised of. Professionals or non-sense unpaid passengers/trainees. At least they are simply coastal cruising and not heading offshore. Maybe I will get to see her in Newport this weekend.

This past weekend me and my girl were on our mooring watching with binoculars, the Morgan was in some haze, looked like a scene from a movie, very cool.
The next thing that happened was new for us, a submarine going toward New London came along in front of the Morgan from our view, talk about the clash of two different worlds, it was very cool. Sure wish I had a high powered camera and lens at that point, but what are you going to do... :)

Saw that also through several miles of haze. The next day, we saw on the news that the USS Missouri had come home, so that must have been her.

Bonus points to anyone that can answer this question:

The Morgan was flying four signal flags from the mizzen peak:
Juliett
Bravo
Papa
November

I dusted off my Pub. 102 but I didn't find any meaning for this four flag hoist. The closest I came was JB = "There is danger of explosion." and PN = "You should keep to leeward of me (or vessel indicated)." I don't think the captain of the Morgan was trying to warn us about an explosion!

This is the type of thing that keeps me up at night, so an answer would be greatly appreciated!
