I am re-bedding my coaming boards. What would you use? I don't have close marine hardware stores available.....

My short list of possibles.

Dolfinite..... don't have any... mail order $35 plus shipping.... (can it ship by mail?)

Butyl tape.... don't know for sure but I think I might be able to find it locally... Auto parts store? I have no idea how expensive it might be.

3M 4000 AND 3M 4200..... I have some on hand.... but I don't really want to use an adhiesive.

Thanks

Butyl tape works well, Many people only seal the screws themselves so any water will drain right out without getting stuck there.

I used to bed them as well as I could, but every time I took them off I had water behind them anyway, so I started to just seal the screws. Now they look as good when I remove them as they did when installed. So it's just a scuff sand and touch up the varnish instead of, scrape down to bare wood to make sure that grey spot isn't a problem.

Buying Butyl Tape Locally

Tree,

When I bought some butyl tape recently, I had a little trouble finding it here in the Metro D.C. area. I found auto shops don't carry it and glass shops don't carry it any more because they have started using something else. My local Ace and Lowe's hardware stores didn't have it either.

This is one of those cases where the telephone book and your telephone are your friends. I found a huge roll of 1/8" x 3/4" in grey for around $5.00 a roll at a local RV/marine parts place. You might want to check that sort of place first.
