I am going to look at an 1985 Islander 28 tomorrow and from the pictures it looks like Islander may have changed the design slightly from earlier models. Was the issue (that I read about here) with plywood compressing solved with the later models?

Any other issues I should be aware of of the later model Islander 28s?

Here is the photo where I noticed It doesn't have the same kind of compression post as earlier models:

I don't know about the compression post, but they replaced that really beautiful and cleverly designed salon table.

I think that for the last year or two of the I-28's run they changed the interior layout. The Pic looks like that later version. I also like the earlier version better.

I would pull the bilge floor cover or look around the sole at the bottom of the post, and look to see if the compression post is all the way to the keel or if it is resting on the saloon plywood floor. You may not have much of an issue with the compression post stopping on the sole because the bulkhead supports all the way across the top and provided the floor has proper solid stringers to support the floor. You would only get a small of any amount of compression at the plywood. Islander used very good marine plywood on my '71, just wasn't supported by properly placed stringers at the compression post.
