Salt water has corroded my aluminum port lights where they were bedded inside the hull. I have wire brushed and sanded off the corrosion. Should I treat with Alumaprep and spray with Zinc Chromate befoe bedding with Buytl?
Another words, will Butyl bond to Zinc Chromate or aluminum that has been treated with Alumaprep?

Thanks for your help!

Butyl does not really "bond", but rather forms a sticky gasket. I have used it on glecoat, plastic, aluminum, steel and wood with no problems. It should work with painted surfaces too, but the failure point becomes the paint to the metal. With my ports I just cleaned the aluminum with wire brush and green scotch pads and after several years have had no problems or leaks. It creates such a good waterproof seal that I have not worried about corrosion on the inner surface.
