I'm going to look at a Nonsuch 22 next week that has its lifelines terminating on the coaming at the aft corners of the transom. There are no stern rails. I'm thinking that boarding the boat from a dingy may be more of a gymnastics exercise than I would care for. Also, I know I'll miss the many options a pushpit provides for attaching things like a solar panel, BBQ, outboard, etc. If I'm going to have a pushpit fabricated, with an opening for a boarding ladder, what should I expect to pay? 1K, 2K, more? I'm located on Cape Cod, MA.
Thanks for your input.

There are plenty of used chandlers in your area where you might find a close fit for a good price. Then it's just a matter of finding a shop to tweak it for you. Shouldn't cost all that much.

I own a Nonsuch 30 which already came with railings installed. I bought a Sailrite arch kit to extend my solar bimini. You might be able to fabricate one yourself depending on your skills using two Sailrite arches that you cut to length and should provide plenty of extra tubing for adding additional rails and supports by using some additional hardware. Then you might only have to get the ladder fabricated.

Don't know how DIY you are, but I have built them from SS tubing and tee and el fittings. At the time I was working at Waste Marine and they have a great employee purchase plan so I got the tubing and fittings real cheap. Manual tubing bender from Home Depot at about $20 worked very well. The fittings are normally way expensive so if you can't get special pricing it might be cheaper to cut and bend everything to fit then take it to a welding shop to assemble.
If not DIY, then check out the local used parts places as previously mentioned. The one I frequent in Benton Harbor, Mi has all kinds of rails, bimini and dodger frames, etc. Just the kind of parts they like to take off scrapped boats.

Simplest thing is to find a pair of "corner" rails - easy to transport and easy to fit - no worries about width. almost guaranteed to clear the backstay unless you have something funky going to the transom corners.

Thanks for all the info. Put my mind at ease in that it does not appear to be a budget buster. On the other hand, the broker just let me know he has a conflict for our date next week so hopefully I'll have a look at the boat on the 16th. Not a bad thing to cool my heels anyway. I'll keep you posted.
