Just purchased a 1987 CS 30.
And have discovered a screw that had been covered over with Bondo like product.
Located on the hull immediately in front of the rudder.
Does anyone know if that screw should be covered over?
Any imput would be helpful.

I've surveyed dozens of that model .... don't remember ever seeing a "screw" in that location nor are there any OE fittings that would be there.

I have the very same Boat and year too. Its on the lift now launching first thing in the morning with new bottom paint. Is it on the skeg in front of the rudder? there is a pretty heavy bronze casting that holds the rudder on basically where the rudder meets the skeg (pivot) and it has lots of heavy fasteners bolting it to the hull, that's probably what you are looking at. As far as I know its just painted over with bottom paint but could be faired in if someone choose to do so. Go to the Holland marine website and they sell the part I'm referring to see if it could be what you are questioning.
Pictures would help but I can't say much I haven't mastered my linking skills yet.

This is a complete WAG, but could it be a garbord drain plug?

Is it at the very bottom of the skeg? I think this is what Albrazzi was talking about:

CS would have definitely faired it at the factory, 30+ years later it would still be a fairing job. That material will delaminate from the casting when water gets behind it. That area of the skeg is filled with expanding foam then laminated over inside. The area the bolts run should be solid glass laminate.

That is not what the OP described. He said a "screw" in "front" of the rudder.
