It is hard to see what sort of a component that is, it looks like it might be power resistors. Does that look like a heat-sink area back there?

It looks like a MOSFET indeed. But replacing it with the correct one might be tough. Those controllers are all over the place and getting to one that isn't burned should be easy. If there's a boat refrigeration place in the area you might get a broken discard unit from them. My boat current boat doesn't use Danfoss controllers, unfortunately.

Isotherm here! Uses the swing compressor. almost no starting torque concerns. rated for 5 amps 12 volt runs on about 3.5!
