This thread is demonstrating why so many of us suggested starting with a more reasonably sized first boat. All the same things can go wrong, but remediation is more affordable. You’ll be able to find one that’s already nearby. And you’ll actually go sailing in a smaller boat in shorter trips which are more compatible with your current work situation. You’ll have a much better idea what you can actually handle for maintenance, upgrades, and physical demands of crewing. With those learnings, you can go bigger.

Nobody here wishes you anything but success. But we’ve seen so many people get in over their heads that you will be a true outlier if you aren’t overwhelmed by this endeavor.

I believe there is a miscommunication here. The distance was similar, about 1200 miles, but there the similarity ends. This boat was in City Island, New York, and I was in the Keys, with an after purchase destination of the Caribbean, via Bermuda. Not that Bermuda from Newport, RI (not California) is a cakewalk.
Was it your first boat? Did you have zero sailing experience, and a job that wouldn't allow you more than a few days off at a time? Jusy sayin'.

Only trying to clear up a misconception, not speaking to you or your posts.
Understood and agreed. I was just adding a few other differences.

I hope it works out for the guy.
