Since I will be sailing in reef infested waters, the depthfinder needs to go in soon. any suggestions on transducer placement?I've installed many on power boats but not sailboats. concerned about closeness to swing keel or any other factors. Thanks.

I know this was a while ago but the transducer on sailboats is inside the hull. The optimal location is to the right of the keel, just forward of it.

Why not the port side?
Starboard ear is the good ear. jk

OP, are you drilling through the hull or pinging through the hull? That is a big factor. In general, stay as close to the keel as possible so as not to get the transducer out of the water during heal. If you ping thu the hull, make sure there is no core or air bubbles. Just solid fiberglass. There are ways to test prior to glueing down.
