Could you sail with these sails on your boat?
I don't think I could even tell if they were trimmed, never mind their incredible ugliness.

Looks like some one patched together a set of sails from curtains that were on sale.

Interesting comments. I'm the student undertaking this research.
The survey is based upon art/design collaborations with sailing.
Your thinking too much into the idea of that photograph. Its an hypothetical example. A visualisation of what could be achieved. As a designer I create print pattern designs.
I'm asking about the concept of having patterned sails.
I can understand some not agreeing with the idea, the most important point in all this is the sail its functional it has to work but is it possible to have the design element within that as well. Thats what my research is for :)

Sails like that, combined with the 4' high advertizing logo billboards scrawled across some of the boats I've seen lately, would make quite a "fashion statement." :)

Thank you so much.
You read way too much into my comment. I was trying to direct general traffic to the guy's survey. It wasn't about you at all.

CoryB1,

Hey, I made a humorous post about one of your pictures, but I don't want to discourage you. It wouldn't surprise me if there's a market particularly in smaller boats and beach cats for wild graphics on sails. And certainly even big boat owners have opted for custom spinnaker graphics. Good luck with your idea...took your survey.

I wouldn't go for that particular pattern, however, it would be fun to have something interesting on my FJ. It is like getting a tatoo: At some point in the future, you may find that you do not want to sail into an anchorage with Mickey Mouse on your sail!

Cory,

Cruisers are a little more conservative as a group, but almost all racers I know would be thrilled to add a sponsors logo to their sails. Spinnakers are generally prefered since it shows up better in pictures, but race boats routinely have team graphics on their sails as well.

What exactly is the goal of your research?

CoryB1 requested that his survey link be removed as the survey was "too successful." He also asked that the threads be deleted (which I won't do) and that his account be deleted.

I say this so that there's no expectation that he/she will respond to direct questions.
