Up to recently dinghies have been safe in the San Blas Islands off Panama but recently a dinghy disappeared and then was returned by the local Kuna indians who claimed to have found the dinghy and wanted a $1,000 reward for its return.

It was interesting that they knew which boat had lost the dinghy!

We were told that the 'finders fee' was negotiated down to $400.

A Kuna working in Panama told us that drug use was increasing amongst the Kuna and therefore there was a greater need for $$$'s

Lift it...lock it...or loose it... irrespective of where you are.

We were in the San Blas a few years ago and the sense I had was that the Kuna culture was in decline on any of the islands where there many cruising boats - begging from boats, that sort of thing. It seemed pretty sad.
