G'day! I own a 1980 PY26 shoal keel sailboat and I am trying to get it USCG documented. I am filling out the application for simplified measurement form and need some help on the hull shape distinct vs. integral keel and the overall depth. Any help would be greatly appreciated

you have distinct keel. Sailboat data shows 4.5' draft really not that critical CG just wants to determine if it is at least 10 metic tonn.

Please note that the simplified measurement form wants depth (D) not draft (T). Depth is the depth of the hull from deck edge to the bottom of the hull, not including appendages. Keels are appendages. If you have a deep bilge that is part of the hull and not part of the keel.

You might try calling the USCG and asking them what they mean by the two terms. I suspect the 'distinct' keel may be some federal bureaucrat's idea of describing a swing keel or daggerboard to another federal bureaucrat.
Aren't our federal government agencies a great deal for the money we pay?
