I did a cable run from battery bank to refrigeration compressor with #8 wire. The largest wire that the connectors to the compressor accepts is #10.

What I did is taper the end of the #8 wire, cutting off some strands at the end to fit into the #10 connector. Is this wrong? If so what's the proper way to do this?

thanks.

By wrong, I guess I'm asking if this will cause any relevant resistance or other issues.

That works. Another solution is to install a small terminal block and run the 8 ga to it and a short run of 10 ga to the fridge.

Or step down butt connectors could be used with 8 ga in one side and 10 out the other to the fridge.

Great, thanks. After all the time and money spent on making sure I have the appropriate wire, fusing etc for the job just wanted to be sure I wasn't negating those benefits by making a bad terminating connection.
