Seriously? And from our gentle Aussie no less!

There is all kinds of wrong with firing into the sub unless the intention is to kill the crew and sink it:

No idea where the people and stuff is in the sub: Warning shots strike and kill people, or damage propulsion or electrical or buoyancy causing problems that kill people. Gunfire outside the sub is unlikely to be heard inside the sub. Bullets traveling through water are unpredictable and lose energy fast. May not penetrate, or may change trajectory and not strike at all.

Boarding is inherently dangerous. I think they did a fantastic job.

It seems like these guys had this operation down. They're young, they're fit, this is what they train for. They have flotation gear and two swift boats close by to pull them out of the water.
