I am interested in how different ENC chart systems handle boat track display. I know that GPS units commonly have chart modes of "north up", "course up" and "track up".
My ENC program (MacENC) seems to only have the usual north up orientation.

If you own, tried or seen any ENC programs (vector charts, not raster/bsb) - let me know what modes they support.

MacENC supports Course Up in addition to North Up chart orientation. Select "Course Up" on the MacENC "View" menu.
If I were to guess, I'd say you are an author of MacENC? :)

I have a demo version so this option is grayed out (or may be it is out because I don't have a GPS connected), but thanks for pointing it out to me - I missed it when looking over the program.

The demo version of MacENC does support "Course Up", but in order to know the course a GPS receiver must be interfaced to MacENC. MacENC works with all GPS receivers that support NMEA-0183 (the standard for marine instrumentation).

You can simulate GPS operation via "Simulate" on the "GPS" menu. Set a speed and course and then you should see the "Course Up" menu item available.
