Ericson 36 RH or Ericson 34x?

I'm brand new to sailing and purchasing a boat is leaving me pretty confused. I'm looking for a boat that I can learn on and have fun on in the light winds around the islands of BC and Washington and then progress to sailing offshore. I've done some research and believe that these two boats are capable of offshore cruising as well as have good light wind performance but other than size does one have an advantage over the other? Thanks.

If the 34X you are considering is the one on Granville Island, be aware that it is an electric conversion so it won't make much of an island cruiser. It's also pretty pricey for a 40 year old, obsolete race boat. There's one in Portland with the original Atomic Bomb for 1/2 the price. It's been for sale for years too so it may be very negotiable as they say.

Very racy looking boats - I've always liked those Mull style extreme stinger sterns, even though they don't help performance. A bit like tail fins on 50's cars I guess. :D

I imagine the interior is pretty limited by that swoopy almost flush deck.
