I know this site isn't too racing focused, but some of us here race, so I thought I would do a thread.

This year is my 3rd EC, finished once, fatigued out once and wrecked once, so I think that's about par for the course.

My own EC this year was cut short by, well, sinking... but I did get some great yet to be edited footage of some of the major bar crossings in big surf.

I will also share vids shared publicly by other guys.

Vid one, was just me walking the finish line scoping out some of the fast finishers. I guess there is Spawn, a big Core Sound, a Tanzer 16, a home built Proa, Prindle 18, Lightning, Flying Scott, home built tri and a bunch of Hobie Tris. There were some fast beach cats that had already left before I filmed this. But who can keep up with with a hot beach cat.

Second vid is from Conchistador, he did his first EC on a Stand Up Paddle Board and finished. Then did at least one more on a SUP before switching to a Windrider.

People make fun of Windriders because they are relatively cheap polythylene tris, but I think they are great boats and considered bringing mine this year. These are Jim Brown designed sailing machines.

Early on in the vid they take a couple of pretty big breaking waves on the beam and shrug it off with a laugh. They covered 300 miles in about 2 and a half days in a beach tri, so Windrider critics can stuff that in their pipe and smoke it.

Another video. "Stump Pass", is the gateway to check point 1. It's not super sailboat freindly, unless you want to cross the surf you need to do a long dog leg to the south and then up to the North East ish.

I would rather sail carefully than bravely, so we took the dog leg. We missed all the shoals and breakers. The Core Sound handled beautifully, but a bit more speed would have been nice.

There was one boat this year that didn't make it through an O'Day Mariner, I don't know the details of what happened, but the aftermath didn't look awesome.

Another vid I shot this year. This was South Caxambas Pass in the Core Sound. Fun conditions. On shore wind with an outgoing tide. Wind waves were stacking on the standing waves from the current making for roley conditions. A few accidental gybes.

Guys over on the other forum were asking some details about where this pass is exactly.

So, the next pass south of Caxambas with a charted depth of 0.6 feet is where this was.

View attachment 147283 we were running in on a +2.6 ft tide with a 3 ft draft, so we were running in with several inches to spare.
