Hello everybody :)

In February we will be going on a crewed charter on a 45ft ketch for 10 days through the Exuma Islands of Bahamas. We'll be boarding at Staniel.

We are interested in things like good sailing, snorkeling, and exploring nature settings. If you've been through the Exumas, what are the "must see" activities you'd recommend.

thanks :)

Well lets see, there's a place called the "aquarium" not far from Staniel, north into the park. Best coral I've seen in the Exumas. It's a small rock right in strong current, with a quiet anchorage nearby. Guide books for the area should have this place noted. Leaf cay with its iguanas is fun, but don't feed them lest you lose a few toes.

We spent an afternoon snorkeling at the aquarium, definitely it's a must see. Bring something to feed the fish. Also, there is a submerged aircraft in the open water proximal to the aquarium. We then spent about 2 hours drifting with the current watching the sea life.

PS - wear BodyGloves, the water will be nicer for longer ;)

"The piano" down by Copperfield's private island is cool.

If you want a less traveled place to stop, White Point is a usually quiet beach with great views from the top of the white sand Ridge (hence White Point). If you're a fisherman there's usually some Spanish Mackerel hanging around the rocks at the end of the point.

The sandcastle house just north of white point is a good photo op. Also, the beach just south of the sandcastle house ( 1/2 mile north of white point) is a great protected anchorage for SE through N winds and has an awesome beach. You can wade out 100+ yards through white sugar sand and less than chest deep water, plus there's a nice grill spot and benches set up underneath the causuarinas to provide shade and wind break.

One could go on and on, but why spoil it?
