...and I must say that I feel really good about it. I was finally able to get her trailer fixed and ready, and the time has finally come. So, now that I have her hauled out, what are some of the things I should do???
One thing that I plan to do is rewire the electrical system. It is only a 23ft boat, so my electronics are at a minimum. I have a VHF, mast light, cabin lights, bow and stern lights and an electric pump for the sink. I plan on installing a cd player at some point and installing at least one ac outlet. I only have one battery and nothing on the boat to charge it with at the moment. I actually take the battery home to charge it.
I also plan on pulling my chain plates and re-bedding them because I notice a leak on the port side bulkhead when it rains.
I would like to paint the deck again, although it was painted two years ago so it isn't completely necessary. Also, it had a bottom job almost two years ago and is amazingly clean for sitting in Lake Pontchartrain. And the name will finally come off, and the new name applied!
It has new cushions and an old crappy 9.9hp Johnson outboard that needs to have the carb cleaned. It also has a portapotti and a propane grill. I am trying to think of everything it has, or what has been done to it, so you can have that information. I think that about covers it though.
With that, I have a couple of questions for y'all:
1) What do you do to your boat when you have it hauled out that I should do?
2) I plan on taking this boat on occasional trips, maybe up to a week long or so and I am perfectly fine with the bare minimum. I will have one other person with me. Anything you would suggest doing while she is out to better prepare her for that? I would only be traveling through the Lake, or to Dolphin Island, Biloxi, perhaps Mobile Bay and Pensacola...so coastal but within the barrier islands so nothing too crazy.
3) I plan on sailing her in some races this summer; however, our races aren't quite races from what I understand but more of a time to go out, sail and drink. I don't drink on the boat because it makes me sick, so I think I might enjoy the races. But is there anything that I should do to better prepare her for the racing?
If these questions sound a bit vague, forgive me. This is the first time I've had her hauled out so I feel like a little kid with a new toy. I can do anything I want/need to her so I want to take advantage of it. Any suggestions would be great, and if you need any info let me know that too. I am a beginner when it comes to any maintenance and am very eager to learn. I have made friends with a few sailors at the NOYC and and the marinas, and have a friend of mine that lives aboard his Catalina 27 helping me through this too. So I am just trying to get as much info as I possibly can. Thanks in advance!
