I know I shouldn't buy a flexible holding tank because they smell and can leak. Go ahead, ask me how I know....but now that I've decontaminated myself, my boat and thrown out that damn rotting bag of filth (it was 25 years old), I realize there isn't enough room to install a proper solid tank in it's place under the bunk. I can't seem to find any other suitable locale for a real tank without necessitating long hoses and exhausting installation...really, I just want to go sailing, so I'm back to the bag-of-yuck idea again. I see 2 companies, Nauta and Vetus, that make them. Can anyone compare these two products? I'll probably replace them properly in a few years regardless, when I have a little more courage...

Vetus make good hatches, if it's the same company... but you might be a candidate for a desiccating/composting toilet. Check out C-Head. I'm a satisfied customer

If the bag fits, why won't the same size poly tank fit? You can have them custom made, although, it can get pricey.

My Cal 33 has a Nauta flexible tank. My previous boat had a flexible tank and it was a constant headache. Replaced it with a rigid poly tank. Assumed I would have to do the same with this one, but it has been fine, so that project got moved down the list.

My boat originally had a Nauta PVC flexible tank, which was odor-permeable. I have since replaced it with a Nauta tank that is nitrile-lined, after talking with a Nauta rep who mentioned that you should never use a PVC flexible tank--Nauta or otherwise--for your waste tank. The tank I have is also rated for diesel. I have used a similar flexible tank for extra water.

Agree with Minne: get a poly tank if it is cost-effective. The flexible tanks have never failed/leaked, but I would probably be more comfortable with a rigid poly tank that didn't wiggle.

I had a Nauta holding tank on my boat and I'm familiar with the Vetus tank. I don't think there is much difference. At best they're ok.

I think Aero Tec Labs (ATL) makes the best flexible tanks.

I bought a poly tank from Ronco plastics to replace my Nauta.
They have about 500 stock designs you can order and they will install the fittings where ever you want them. When you look at the designs, don't forget you can turn them anyway you want.

Ronco tanks have thick walls and don't seem to allow odors to penetrate.
