I just recently obtained a used Forespar Line-Control whisker pole. The pole extends from 12 to 22 feet and the tubes are 3 and 2 1/2 inches. The line used to extend and retract the pole gets tied off on a cleat at the inboard end of the pole. However, the line is not long enough to put a figure 8 around the cleat. In fact, it barely makes one wrap around the cleat. Is that a "jam" cleat, i.e., the line jams under the horn of the cleat, and only one wrap is needed or is there something amiss with the line?

A second question: I plan to mount the pole on the mast and will be replacing the ring car that I presently use to attach all of my halyards when not in use. What do others do with your halyards if you don't have a place on the mast to attach them? I've seen them attached to the toe rail, but that's a PITA, if you ask me.

The control line on my 10-18 whisker pole is long enough to do a proper cleat hitch. I wonder if your control line is tangled inside?

It occured to me when I was trying out my new pole last weekend that you can turn the inner pole relative to the out, and if that was done enough times you'd have quite a twist in the control line.

Main Halyard goes on the aft end of the boom. The spinnaker halyard goes to the toerail.

And.... IF (and that's an if that varies from boat to boat) it does not get into a quarrel with the top swivel of the roller furling.... then lead the spinn halyard to one side of the bow pulpit or the other. Both sides if you have a couple of wing halyards.

Otherwise, it's to the toe rail. Anywhere but straight down the side of the spar where it beats against it 24/7.
