I need to sail around from Fort Pierce around the keys to Burnt Store PG,
5 Ft draft 55 ft plus mast 2007 Hunter 36.
We did sail her from Greenport,NY to Fort Pierce Oct 20 -Oct 30 to Fort Pierce
Montauk to Cape Hatteras outside again at Morehead city to Cape Canaveral inside to Fort Pierce.
So any good advice with leaving after Jan 1.

It's a pretty straight forward little voyage so if you have the charts, go for it. I'd suggest staying in Hawk Channel on the outside of the Keys since you don't need to sweat the depth. Also I gather there are quite a few crab traps in Florida Bay. By the by, We're going to be staying at Fishermen's Village Boat Basin in Punta Gorda for the majority of the winter. We checked into Burnt Store and decided that they were a little too remote from everything, although they seem to have very nice facilities also. Good luck with the trip. It should be fun!

I'd agree with Sander. Hawk Channel to Channel 5 Bridge (stay alert going through the Yacht Channel just north of there). Or go on down to Marathon and Boot Key Harbor for a night ashore, before heading north.

You can also cut through the banks in the Moser Channel just west of Marathon and have enough depth to make it but you need to navigate VERY carefully and in good weather as you don't want to miss a marker or have wind or current get you sideways as a grounding could be very expensive!
Alternatively, just stay in the Hawk till Key West and then make the overnight jump to the left coast which is what we did with our 6ft. draft.

Thanks guys

Yes I am thinking Hawk Channel to Marathon stay over night and up the west coast,you will like Fisherman's wharf we go there a lot for food and entertainment and ice cream.
What about the run down from Fort Pierce to maybe Biscayne Bay stay over night what inlets would you use if need to go inside from Fort Pierce to past Miami and than down Hawk Channel.

SeaD...First...you CAN'T go inside to Miami if your mast is over 47 feet. The Julia Tuttle bridge prevents that. You need to go outside from Ft. Lauderdale to Miami then take a left down Biscayne bay and hop out from No Name Key where you can wiat for good weather for the Hawk.
Once in the Hawk...and assuming daylight sailing...stop and anchor off Rodriquez Kay the first night and then stay in Boot Key Harbor at Marathon before going through the bridge the next day and heading north.
Weather can be quite windy and relatively cold...in the 40's-50's sometimes and I would say westerlies would be prevailing. The big weather event to look out for is a cold front with strong northerlies (20-30kt.) dropping down...you want to head north from Marathon AFTER one of these when you have a good forecast! The navigation in the channel is critical so you want to SEE the markers which can be far apart and you don't want to get blown off course on to coral. You don't want to end up like these guys!

Heading south from Fort Pierce to Miami, via the Cape Florida Inlet (my preference) is an overnight jaunt. Along the way you'll pass the Lake Worth Inlet, then Hillsboro (Pompano Beach), Port Everglades (Lauderdale), and Government Cut (Miami).
