I'm thinking about replacing the fill fitting on deck at the same time. Any advice on the best bedding to use being that it could be exposed to diesel during fill ups?
Lifecaulk will work but why fix something that "ain't" broke?

It nearly is. It's the old type where you use a winch handle in the slot on top to open it. That slot is barely able to grab so I figured I'd do it all at once. Thanks.

You might find simply obtaining a replacement cap a much easier solution. See (click on) Amiot Deck Fill Caps. While one can use a winch handle, an easier solution is a proper key, available from Blue Water Hardware at 1321 Commerce St, Petaluma, CA 94954, (707) 763-1600. The key works much better for both the fuel filler and the water fill. I suggest you buy and try the key before replacing the cap on the fuel fill as a replacement may not be necessary.

FWIW...

A good source for hose is commercial truck parts places, I picked up a section of hose to do some spreader repairs and it was about half the price of a local marine place for the exact same stuff.

Well I ended up getting lucky. Called around to some local commercial ship supply places and one had some of the Parker coast guard approved marine hose in stock. When I showed up they gave me section free out of the cut pile. Couldn't work out much better. Bought new T style hose clamps for it.

I'll look into just replacing the cap. I didn't know that option existed. Thanks.

That's what sometime had told me. I found the stuff they sold listed at over $20/ft at online marine stores but they sold it for less than $7/ft.
