I can tell one experience here
came by boat to el salvador with mexican fuel from huatulco...arrived in el salvador with basically full tank
it was a monel tank...20 galons or so.
the boat at anchor used this fuel only to charge batteries about once a week or twice a month...
for a year(yanmar 2gm) when we left for costa rica we still had fuel in the tanks...no additive nothing...
we topped off the old now over a year old fuel with some fresh diesel(with a baja filter) and bobs your uncle
remember useage is the best cleaning additive there is on a diesel
if thats not possible to do use some additive like seafoam or stabil but by all means DO NOT ABUSE them.
sometimes a flush treatment is good for the fuel lines and injectors and system but do that with an extrenal tank.
maybe it was the monel or luck or whatever but we had no issues with 1 and a half year old fuel....
