Anyone ever seen one of these before and have any idea how to take it apart? I have two of these on my 1967 Chris Craft Apache that are frozen that need to come off for service and so I can paint my deck!

Thanks,

Brian

i don't know what kind they are. it looks like you could try to put a straight punch in the hole in the ring & tap it on it to try to rotate it to see if it will loosen. perhaps someone here knows more about it.

mmmm...I want one of them......

Are they readily available in the US ? We have a big ugly metal bar with posts on it at various points and it is a pain in the butt to stow in a readily accessible location. I have never seen one of those spanners before. Have to be a big improvement.

tommays------- i should have been more detailed in my suggestion. the straight punch or rod would have to be long enough to hold on to the top to keep it vertical while tapping on the side. i have taken many things apart this way without marring them. of course if you have a spanner that fits, it would be the proper way to do it.

Also two Philips Head Screw Drivers (vertically - one in each hole) and a third horizontally between the two will work in a pinch. If it's been a while since they've been apart a bit of WD40 or penetrating oil may be advisable. Whatever you do, don't loose anything over the side, replacement parts will be hard to come by.

Maybe take pictures as you disassemble it, so you remember how it goes back together.
