Hi,

We are thinking of heading south from the Chesapeake Bay this fall down through the ICW down to FL and maybe the Bahamas.

I have a cruising guide for the ICW, but I am looking for other information sources that others have found to be very useful (books, blogs, etc).

We are sailing a 36' Pearson cutter.

Thanks!

jb,

Here are a few suggestions:

- Activecaptain.com. Great tool for route planning. Free registration.
- Skipper Bob's. Useful info; I'd recommend both the marina guide and the anchorage guide as a supplement to Activecaptain.
- A good chart kit (we use the MapTech.)
- SSCA (requires paid registration.)
- AGLCA (requires paid membership for full resources.)

For cruising guides Mark and Diana Doyle's guides and the Kettlewell guide are my choices.

For the most up-to-date information there is no substitute, bar none, for Salty Southeast Cruisers Net. They have bridge outages within minutes and shoaling problems. SSECN updates fuel costs every week.

ActiveCaptain is quite good, especially for marina and anchorage information.

Waterway Guides (who publish Skipper Bob's) have been pushing online updates and doing some good work.

SSCA Forum is free. The Bulletin, with great contemporaneous letters, requires membership.

If you plan to run outside for some stretches, the Steve Dodge guide to Atlantic inlets is great.
