Probably a really dumb question but is it required by law that one has their hailing port on their boat? I have read yes and no on this.

It is yes and no....
If your boat is Coast Guard ducumented, yes. If just state registered, no.
How many small boats have you ever seen with a hailing port on them? Few and far between.

True but I never paid attenion to this really and thought I better ask. I always thought it was just a personal preference to have the hailing port on a boat. I learn something new every day. Thanks!

My current boat and my 2 previous boats all had names and hailing ports on the stern because all were CG documented and it is required. My first boat also had them but it wasn't required since it was a state registered boat.
