I am sure many have half hull models of your sailboats and was thinking of having one made of the H28.5 for my bulkhead wall decoration... anyone have these models as a display in their vessels?

Hunter 280 Half Hull

Here is a site I came across that commissions half hull models... nice site and good ideas...

I carve / build scale models of my boats. It is easy to do if you can scale the wls from a lines plan to the dimension of your lumber. A good business copier that can change dimensions is magic. They hang around the house.

Down... Thanks for the heads up... I carve wood also but never made a half hull... seems fun and I will take a stab at it... now where to get the hull lines for the H28.5

Do you have a link to your models? Do you use a stack up method or carve from solid wood? I was considering solid wood but will try the stackup method if it does not turn out right.

After our experience trying to buy a half hull from a well known model maker (not Tom Dunn) I'd sure be tempted to attempt my own.

Months late in delivery (a birthday gift for our son) despite ordering many months in advance. I was not a happy camper.

I had one made by halfhull.net This guy is local here in ATL and I got to see the work in progress as well as enjoy the finished product. About five boat bucks, but it was my retirement present to myself. Lots of options re size, level of detail, etc. that affect the price and he works from line drawings and photos so it really can look like your boat.

Ed... That is one beautiful half hull model... nicely painted (are those the colors of your boat?).

I'm sure it is the center of attention when guests arrive on your vessel... Same here... looking to get a small model of my hull for conversation piece... but it may be less detailed... though I would like to have one as detailed as yours.

Guitarguy: Thanks! The colors, boat's name graphic, are all true to the real thing. Actually, the model is on the wall in my home office, so I can day dream when necessary. :)

Hank (LouAnn34): I got your PM but I can't respond to you due to this site's post count rules. Just go to the halfhull.net web site, and scroll to the bottom for contact info. The guy's name is Mas Azuma. His site has hundreds of pictures of his work.

Cut the wl pieces and stack them. Fair to the glue joints. Voilla! I always cut duplicates of each wl layer since I have bothered to create its pattern.

Have fun.
