Hi Sirtang,
Greetings from another CT sailor! If you really want time on the rail, I suggest stopping by a few yacht clubs that have thriving race programs and offer to fill out the crew on any boat that is shorthanded. Skippers are often looking for an extra body just before a race when the wind pipes up.
Here is a sample of are some clubs that you may want to check out - there a many more:
Duck Island, YC, Westbrook
Niantic Bay YC, Niantic
Thames YC, New London
Shennecossett YC, Groton, CT
I race occasionally on a friend's Ensign out of Thames YC, but at heart, I'm a cruiser. The only rail meat that can be found on my boat is sitting on the grill!
