Hello,

Im a newbie sailor. Ive been lurking for about six years now. Im a big researcher and have read john vigor and calder, don dodds. plus online. Sleepswithoars is great.

I take a long time to make a decision. Im looking ot atleast get into cruisng the carribean. Im an outdoors guide/business consultant, and much like my other outdoors sports it seems like the biggest impediment to learning is owning the equipment and living somewher you can do it everyday.

My sailing experience is crewing 25 to 33s a handful of times and some small one designs and currently am enjoying sailing hobie adventure island trimarans here.

My outdoors pursuits include motorcycling, backpacking, hiking flatwater and whitewater padldling canoe and kayakas well as riverboard. Currently a sea kayak guide.

Ive restored a couple cars and motorcycles. Pretty handy with plumbing, electrics, fiberglass and engines. so the sailboat was the obvious next step.

Im a big fan of character. Im more of a fan of the shane or monk bridgedecks than bayliner.

Im really looking for a big project to tinker on and restore but it has to have that character ya know?

I tend toward safety over speed within reason. aristotle was right when he said all things in moderation.

Ive looked at bristols, watkins, westerlys hunters and some others.

Currently looking for a liveaboard here in the keys but want offshore capability.

Im long on theory and short on experience

There is a 36 allied princess id love to have as i want to get offshore at some point to soon.
If you're looking for crew locally or visiting and need a buoy let me know

anyone else in the keys?

Welcome to the Sailnet community and good luck with your search for a suitable boat. There are certainly plenty of projects out there, if that is what you are looking for. :) Hell, any older boat takes on the guise of a project in my experience and the tinkering is at least half the fun for some of us....
