hello i'm kurt scott i'm retired do to kidney failure, it has always been my dream to live on a sailboat,30 to 35 feet. i live in michigan but want to relocate to Punta gorda florida. I'm looking for a mentor, sailboat, marina, and i have been doing research on rates of marinas, insurance and upkeep.
I plan in buying a good boat but one that has a good hull, i don't want to spend to much there fore i will be buying a fixer upper. just trying to get the feel of how much money i will need to go down to florida and find a boat is tough. How long will it take to find it, how long will it take to get into water, getting it to water if not there already........ wow! Need a mentor bad...... any way i'm good with tools and wood, just never did anything with fiberglass.
Just wanted to say hi to you all, and any help would be great.

Welcome to SailNet Kurt. The forums are a good place to get started on researching different boats and all that go along with it. Don't feel bashful about asking questions!

Welcome to SailNet, Kurt.

You don't say if you know how to sail? Or, do you just want to live on the boat and stay at a marina without actually sailing?

Just be aware there is nothing more expensive than a cheap boat.
I speak from experience.

We are now looking for a sail boat my uncle said that his was in bad shape and couldn't be fixed with just TLC a loan. I had gone to see her and had someone lined up to do the work but there isn't much that I can do. So now I'm saving my nickels I'd say pennies but we don't have them anymore in Canada and we will start looking again in the spring. Just wondering what would be a good boat to start with any suggestions?
