This is a toughie, for me. But I'm sure someone has dealt with this. I'm cleaning the ss plate that goes between the keel and rudder. I am wire brushing [drill/sander/wheel] the outside but have difficulty getting the inside part. The pictures show the barnicles and even mussels that were growing in there. Last year I used sandpaper and a wire brush. I did a fair job but would really like to know if anyone has a good idea for really cleaning it? [short of taking it apart] I used bottom paint last year and know I have to keep the zinc connection area clean but would you suggest priming it before putting on the bottom paint? Last years job didn't seem very durable.

Have you tried On Off and a power washer? It looks like you will get a lot of back spray so stand back and just use the nozzle in the slot
