Just a quick hello and background info.
I'm 37, wife is 36 and we have two boys, 3 and 1.5. We have lived in Fort Walton Beach, Florida since about '91 and have never been on or owned a boat until last year, if you can believe that. I decided it was about time we got on the water and so I started helping to crew a 30' Catalina at the local yacht club. I am completely hooked and the wife enjoys it too, though she doesn't get as much time on the water yet.

We're interested in talking to or meeting anyone in the local area that is interested in sailing. We're trying to make up for lost time :)

Soul Searcher, if you get this, I'd especially be interested in having a beer with you and chewing the fat, as they say. I think I saw your boat docked today--if so, it is really nice. I'd PM you, but I can't since I'm a noob on the site.

Welcome to Sailnet David, glad to hear to you have got the bug. It is a great thing to do as a family. Take it slowly with your wife, one step at a time and with a bit more time on the water she too will never want to look back!

Once you have 10 posts you can PM here.

Welcome aboard, David. (Great handle, BTW, describes many of us.:laugher) I'm sure you'll link up with lots of great sailors in the Ft. Walton area, west to Pensacola and east to Panama City. And if you're already crewing on a boat from the local club, you're right in the thick of it. I'm envious! But in a good way.:)

This is a great forum, and you'll find links to other excellent sites, just by hanging around here.

Enjoy the party.:D

David,
Relatively new to sailing myself. My wife and 3 daughters live in Pensacola. We've got a Catalina 22 in the water in Gulf Breeze. Let me know if you want to sail sometime. By the way, may be moving to FWB next year and would love to meet a few people before the move.

Hi Matt,

I would have PM'ed you but I don't have enough posts yet

Very nice to hear from you. I would love to go sailing, especially in a Catalina 22. I have been crewing on a Catalina 30 for the local yacht club Wednesday night fun races but I haven't been on a smaller boat yet. I love the experience and I feel like I am learning a lot but I get stuck in the same position--mainly genny trim.

My wife and I have been thinking about buying our own smaller sailboat (perhaps a MacGreggor 26s). Do you go out with your whole family? What age are your girls? Our boys are 2 and 3 and 1/2. We haven't taken them out on a boat yet but they love the water.

Drop me a line if you get a chance, [email protected]

Look forward to hearing from you,
david

Welcome to the party, Matt. Great site here as you probably have discovered by now. Have you been out on the water yet this summer? We're just starting to get back out on the water here in Lake Guntersville, now that some of the heat is breaking and the wind is blowing again. I sail a C22 and am hoping to haul it down to your waters one of these days for some clear-water sailing.:D
