Met Hobie in California and gotto take a ride with him ona 16back in the late 80s.
Was quite a characterMy first sailboat was a a hobie 16...ageless fun boat

That sucks. Though my beachcat is not a Hobie (it's a Spirit 17) - it's still a Hobie.

The dude created many generations of fun. That's the best legacy you could possibly leave.

The 33 is a cool boat, and can still win on ELAPSED time (see 2013 Down the Bay race) or better yet, watch this video of one planing with boat speed in the 20s knts:

I surfed on my first Hobie surf board in 1966 - he made surf boards before he started making sailboats.

Also had a H16 for a few years, great fun.

what a beautiful video on a beautiful point of sail (Hobie 33)

first sailing I ever experienced was on a Hobie Cat... I'm sure I'm not the only one :)

One character gone from that era. I wonder when his neighbor on Orcas Island in the san juans, one Mr Warren Miller will be gone too! They do not always make them like they used to!

I have been sailing Hobie Holder 14 for 16 years now. One of the best dinghies I ever sailed.
Hobie Alter is now sailing the great fleet in the Sky. Thank you, dude.
