I bought a Japanese registered Yamaha boat, I am a US citizen living in Taiwan and will cruise in the Philippines and Taiwan. Where to register USA, Malaysia or where. Any insurance concerns regarding where it is registered? I want liability insurance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Top Marine is a good insurance company for these water, usually 1% of hull value per year, full coverage...USCG documentation is a good idea..or check out the langkawi small ships registration....more on this later.

Congratulations on your new ride. I will go with the USCG registration and the insurance Aeventyr mentioned. Still working things out here. Congratulations again.

Thanks for the help and the congrats. I bought a day sailer to get on the water until I can find my poor man blue water cruiser.
I am going with the Langkawi registeration because the USGC will not document vessels under 10,000 # displacement and I will need paperwork for international travel to go from Okinawa to Taiwan and cruise around the Philippines. The broker said the Malaysia paperwork takes six weeks.

I solicit everyone thoughts, commits, concerns and ideas.

Cheers,
Todd
