i think i maybe insane ( kind of a product review )

well i bought new rain gear from bass pro.

well we are having a chessy bay thunder storm right now, winds have to be close to 40 knots on my street, rain in sheets so much you cant look up. lots of fun being 3 blocks off of the patapsco river ( by inner harbor) when the weather rolls in.

so what do i do ? i put the new rain gear and go watch the lightning and rain. i had trouble looking up for the lightning as it was raining too hard to see up with out getting blinded. well the gear worked great, nice ventilation no build of of sweat, i could feel the breeze under the jacket keeping me cool.

the rain gear is from bass pro callled world wide sportsman or some thing like that. i think its quality is like marmot or close quality from what i can see. its rip stop nylon, with a mesh liner in a nice bright yellow, my wife called me big bird.

lessons learned, in 40 knot winds with heavy rain wear rain pants too

as usual no connection bla bla bla

bass pro

Yes, you're insane... :)

BTW, I just got a Gill three-dot foul weather gear jacket on the clearance rack at WM for $40. It was a $200 jacket originally. Major differences between marine FWG and non-marine are things like:

Inner cuffs so that when you reach up to adjust something rain doesn't pour down your sleeve and soak you.

Retroreflective patches on the sleeves and body

Better hood designs and a high-protective collar

etc...

Reflective tape

Forget about the chest; you want the tape on the hood. I presume that you will be wearing a lifevest with SOLAS. At night, the rescue helicopter will see your head first. Trust me.

Those sleeve cuffs make a world of difference when it's raining and blowing stink and you're trying to fix all the crap that's trying to blow off of your boat at night. You can reach up to tie off a whatever and the water doesn't run down your arm and into your undies.
