Does anyone know a good place to anchor near Topsfield Beach, NC, in the ICW? 54 foot sailboat with 5 1/2 ft draft.

We ended up finding a marina. I guess people make a regular practice of getting reservations in multiple places then select the one they are closes to at the end of the day. And many don’t cancel the ones they don’t go to. And the ICW and marinas were open and operating when we went down last week. The marina where we started in Beaufort, NC, said they have never been so busy due to the Covid. I guess a combination of people not going to the islands and moving onto their boats where they can work and go to school virtually Is why.

Marked anchorages include;
  • Sloop Creek Entrance - Just off the ICW near R86.
  • Sloop Creek - Good holding 10' to 12' a little exposed but a good overnighter with light small boat traffic.
  • Topsail Sound (Sloop Point) - Delightful anchorage. Good alternative to Mile Hammock Bay.
  • Banks Channel - Good peaceful anchorage. You can get out of channel behind G7 with 6'-10' of water. Once the ski boats and fishermen go home it is very peaceful with good holding. It can get choppy if the wind is blowing hard in the same direction as the channel.
  • Topsail Sound South - Reliable Natural Channel Sand Bottom between sandbar and salt marsh
