Greetings all,

I''m hoping someone can help me. I have a 79 41''OI with, what might
be, the original depth sounder installed. It''s a Combi Offshore made
by International Marine Instruments. The system has been operating great
until last week with the display went out. In trouble shooting the problem
I found a 100K pot was defective and needs to be replaced.

So what I''m hoping is someone out there might know what happened to
International Marine Instruments, Inc. I''m looking for any information on
the company or anyone that might be able to help me located parts for the
unit. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
-Gary

Rather than spend a lot of time trying to locate the origional manfacutrer, it may pay to go to the Radio Shack industrial catalog or other electronic supplier for a reasionable substitute pare. A 100K pot should be a common item.

- question -

just bought a 1979 Islander 30 - and notices this 'electrical' box - looks like a old EQ from a radio.

The 4-5 turn dials ( knobs ) are labeled - night lighting, digital lighting.

What exactly is this, and what does it do?
it is labels as IMI - COMBI.

Well here is another story...

Remember the IMBI Combi system I told you guys about?
Remember the wiring associated with the 'missing' parts that I was contemplating cutting and throwing away ( because the company went out of business in the early 80's ? ).

and remember the 'gaping hole' in the enclosure above the wheel ?

PREPARE YOURSELF.........

I went to a 'yard sale' for boats.. some random boating stuff put on by the marina and came upon this 'thing' that looked like it would fit the enclosure, that had the words IMBI on it.... Depth finder and speed gauge..

$ 10.00

Went to the boat, plugged in the serial cord, and placed it into the perfectly shaped enclosure... flipped the nav breaker.. and waaalaaa - IT WORKS.

What are the chances I would find this ?????? Please see member galleries....

this is unbelievable...

Would you happen to still have any manuals or documentation on the Combi System. Attempting to restore a unit and could use some documentation.

Their forum profile says they've not been here, since 2006. Honestly, I swear the account was made up as combination of some really old posts and this wasn't a real single poster. Until the recent platform software upgrade, I don't recall ever seeing this poster and now I see their old posts all the time.

Anyway, welcome aboard. Just didn't want you to think you were being ignored.

Interesting. It lists them as registered. Go figure. Thanks for the welcome and insights.
