I'm installing a lifting eye on my Santana 23d and would like to run a plate down the back of the dagger board box and bolt into the lead ballast in the bilge. I don't have any room to install J bolts due to the fact that it's only a couple inches thick and can't get to the sides of it. Any ideas on how to get some studs into the ballast? The plate will also have a pad to lift the cabin top.

Yep. I was thinking expansion bolts or perhaps a small hole and opening up the bottom with some high density filler. Any ideas? I'm shooting in the dark here.

Do you have keel bolts? Or, is the ballast inside the keel?

I put a lifting eye on a Santana 20 using an eye nut on one of the keel bolts.
