My point exactly. If resources are limited, and for most of us they are, then we need to rationally decide what's the best method for mitigating actual risk. Put another way, what's the cost-benefit analysis of spending the money on insurance vs radar? The optimum answer will depend on a lot of factors. In some cases insurance might come out on top, but I bet radar would win in a much broader range of situations.I paid the extra for a policy last time I went cruising down south. It was $2000 I could have used for radar or something else, but it did feel good knowing that I wouldn't lose everything if something went wrong.
Nothing did, and I am still on the fence about whether I will carry it next time, though.
