wondering how many of you search craigslist in your area every day. Not because you want to get rid of your current boat. Just because you want to see whats out there. Almost feels like cheating on my girl but I cant stop. I think it helps me get through the winter. only 101 days until my marina opens for the season.

Just because you read Playboy, doesn't mean that you don't love your wife.

Relax, my son.

Now for your penance, I want you to say 20 Hail Mary's, 20 Our Father's. Then I want you to go forth and lubricate those dry, rattling winches that you've been neglecting, and replace those fraying docklines.

Now go in peace, love the Lord (and your boat).

I never do. Since I bought my 1986 Nonsuch 30 in 1995 I have never felt the need to look at another boat. Even at the Annapolis Boat shows. Just got back from a 12 day charter on a 45 foot Catamaran in the Spanish Virgins still found myself preferring my own monohull.

I like looking at CL and YW to get ideas for mods and upgrades to our boat, not to replace her.

I'm not foolish enough to suggest that in any way parallels to looking at other women.

If you see hair growing in between fingers on the hand you use to scroll boat listings on your computer, then you know for sure it is not OK.

I dunno... I've loved all my boats... and I browse craigslist for my same brand boat, and also browse at others... Sometimes sadened by what I find. I've come close to buying boats I know or know others would enjoy when I see them going for less than they should. I almost purchased a Capri 22, with motor and trailer for $2000, as well as a well loved J/22 for same. Just because you just know that the boats can be revived and be fun once they are. (winter build projects keep you off the websites - um sometimes). Present site excluded of course.

I don't think I'd make it through the cold lonely winters without Craigslist. Sure YW is nice when your feeling upscale, but sometimes you just need to slum it a little! ;)
There are lots of very reasonably priced boats on YW, and some truly overpriced ones on craigslist. Personally, I'm partial to Sailboat Listings - sailboats for sale

I just asked my wife and she said it was OKKKK! Just don't get stuck on just 1 ! No seriously I look at Yacht world and all the other sights. It's a guy thing? I just love looking at all the other girls out there. Some are major heart throbs and others are well, you know, Where was that sexy one I was looking earlier! And I don't think my girl minds cause we are totally intimate. I know all her quirks, insides and out. OH and you don't need therapy!!!!

I look at craigslist every day. But I am also actively in the market for a new boat. Once I buy one I don't plan on looking again. I don't want the buyers remorse of "if I only waited another 2 weeks I could have had this one." Or even worse I will find another one and that one also.

Every day I check the trapline: Used Sailboats in central Canada not because i am looking to catch anything, but just so that i don't miss catching anything too good to miss.
Besides, it's interesting to see the changes in the market, the boats that you didn't know were nearby that come out of hiding and go on the block, and the boats that are listed forever or listed sporadically for years always at the same price, with the same pictures and the same description.

I enjoy looking at Sailboat Listings more but do look at CL and YW.

Sometimes it's to day dream of going with a larger boat or other times to look at a project boat to fix up. Then I look at my boat and see I got enough projects to do on my own boat I already have and it's the perfect boat to go where ever I want.

I look almost everyday for reasons listed above. Totally content with my boat, but you never know when that Barient 16 (antique bronze) will magically appear, or your biggest rival on the racing scene goes on the block (this has happened), or a sister boat that has just a few tweaks that you like. Looking around also helps with my sailing terminology. There are tons of people selling boats that don't know what half the gear is and I feel superior for my advanced knowledge of stuff I'll never need.

As your Priest would say in confession, why don't you find some other, healthy, outlet for your urges. You could take an online yacht designing course (if such a thing exists) or you could write a research paper on some aspect of sailing. Believe it or not, it was your type of obsession that led me to my sextant users guide and my singlehanded book. I figured if I was spending 24-hours a day obsessing about sailing, I might as well put it towards something useful, not just gazing at my screen all day, moaning, while my wife wonders what the heck is going on here.
