Was able to remove almost all the ice off of the deck today. Used a heat gun and melted about 12 gallons worth of the ice in the bilge. Hoping a few warm days will melt the rest. Long Island Sound still has a few growlers floating in it. Mount Sinai Harbor is still half frozen over. Things are getting there finally.

Mbianka...yup I also got ice out of the bilge..dont like having it there bit there seems always to be some accumulation from topside vents etc. But given how hammered weve been boats been good and am thankful for instance I was able to keep rudder clear most of the time. Your post reminds me of mt Sinai which can be such a beautiful place. Hope i can arrange some northshore cruising one of these days...this year hope to re situate for a couple weeks to Peconic. Anyway weather has brought some hope it was gettin pretty grim there for awhile!

While our Bay never freezes, most harbors and coves will get a one inch skin for the coldest week or two. This year, most have had ice for months, some got a foot of ice and many dock pilings have been raised.

The spring promises to be a bit of a mess around here. I hope people winterized well too. It was a deep, deep freeze.

Yeah, been about ten years since the harbor froze like this. But, looks like Spring may actually arrive:
THE BIANKA LOG BLOG: SPRINGING AHEAD
Expecting some rain later today. Never thought I would be appreciating a forecast of rain. But, it's better than having another snow like we have been having every few days since late January and it will help to melt some of the remaining stuff still on the ground.

We're just warming up here in the north. We didn't get nearly the snow you easterners did and now with a couple days in the 60s it's almost all gone.

I saw something unusual on Sunday. I was biking along the Mississippi River and I noticed that there were four empty boat trailers in the lot. It's warmed up enough that the river has open water where there's current, and this includes the boat ramp, so there were quite a few people out there in their little fishing boats.

But it's also frozen pretty good near the edges and in inlets, so people were also out ice fishing. Quite an odd sight to see people ice fishing with boats going past them in the background.

One of my co-workers has an ice boat and she was out sailing it over the weekend. That things sounds crazy. She says she can get up to 45mph on it. She also said it's difficult/impossible to tack, so you jibe every turn. Yikes. I don't think I'd enjoy a 45mph jibe.

No it isn't Spring yet.

10 more days.

I expect there is going to be a lot of snow melting during the wait.
