I found this O'day 22 for sale on Craigslist for $900 and was wondering if that is a good price for that kind of boat with trailer. The owner say's the rigging needs to be inspected and the cabin is dirty and the last time he took it out was last year. I tried to post a link but I need more posts in order to do that.

It could be an excellent deal but there is no way to know without inspecting the boat and trailer. I saw a 1975 in Mansfield Ohio for 3k. PLEASE OP...can you provide more details? If you spend $900 how bad could it be? if you want help from well meaning folks here, give us more information please. The answer is yes--it's a really good deal...if....and if and if and if....and if....etc etc etc

Yeah I know sorry about the lack of info, I just saw that boat literally 20 min. ago and have not even talked with the seller. I emailed the guy and asked if he would take $700 because if he does take that offer then I figured i'd drive up there and take a look at it. I also figured that for $700-$800 if he counter offers as long as there isn't holes in the hull how bad can it be?

There is just not enough information...go look at here...take pictures, you will need the trailer inspected. How are the sails? Is it well equipped? Is there an outboard? One weird thing is he admits the boat is dirty and says he'll goo and ask MORE if he cleans it? That's odd... why not clean it and make it presentable and ask a higher price and go down if needed but to say he'll go p if you want her cleaned? Is he hiding something? The trailer alone could be well over $900 in value...but...just take a good look and then go for it--not worth a survey or much more time and energy..

I'll take it from here CatMan22 ... (beat ya to it!)

That is not a bad price for a 22' boat on a trailer IF it is all there and functional.
Is there an OB motor included?
I'm not sure. I will have to find out if the guy even responds to my email, for some reason people around here on Craigslist are hard to reach.

A word of advice...if you or any OP wants ideas, comments or suggestions from we the other members--at least do your basic homework so we can help you....and ...so much of these types of questions depends on who you are and what is your skill level rather than the boat alone. How well can you asses the condition? Prices for such a mass produced boat ca be determined easily via the internet. Do your homework and then come back here so we can be helpful to you.

I also found that kind of weird. Maybe he's just trying to fool someone into thinking he's going to raise the price soon or something. If I hear back from the guy I'll try to get some more information from him and then post it here.

$900 with a swim ladder a trailer and roller furling is probably a very good deal--if it is not a mildewy wreck..but only you can tell that. Stop asking for ideas and comments until you at least find out if it is still for sale...if you want to learn values of oday 22's it can be easily learned online..there is not likely to be an outboard or it would have been mentioned and pictured. Rigging even if quite old may be okay--it's just a small light boat and you are not going to Cape Horn...now go learn more and then come back...or move on to another boat

Thanks for the help if it's still for sale maybe the guy will meet me somewhere to show it, East Cleveland is not exactly a nice part of town and not somewhere I really want to go. I am looking at another boat which is out that way to and it's a 19 ft. O day so i'll just make a day out of it.

I did just talk with the guy he did say the boat is fine, doesn't leak, doesn't have outboard motor. He also said the sails are fine and the cabin interior isn't as dirty as he thought at the time of writing the ad. He also said he's motivated to sell and is lenient on the price so i'm probably going to offer him the $700 pending my inspection and see what he says. Funny thing is our call got disconected and now I can't reach him again, so frustrating.

You need to know, what you are getting into.

Just because he says the sails are good doesn't mean anything, you'll need to lay them out look for tears, dirt, mold, etc. Even used sails could be over $500and much more for that boat.

Does it have cushions.? While it doesn't hurt the sailing properties it can be well over a $1,000 just to do it on the cheap.

A small 2 stroke OB could be $500, if you're lucky.

Make sure it has a tiller or rudder.

If indeed the standing rigging is bad, that's not cheap and could add up quickly and you can't cheap out on that, it's holding your mast up.

Do the winches work, are they there..?? Price those babies out

Do some research about checking for soft spots in the hull, deck, etc.... Look in the bilge se if there's any water, it may help to see if there are leaking windows, deck hardware, etc.

Make sure you know if you need a title for the boat, the trailer or both to register them in your state...

You don't want a $700 anchor.

Good luck :D

Is there a legit title for the boat and trailer in the seller's name?

Is it complete? I don't see a rudder. All the rigging and sails? Is it rotted?

Otherwise, even without an outboard looks like a deal.
