Just bought my first sailboat a Bristol 24

Wish I could join you this weekend but I am not free - 11th anniversary and my wife would kill me or divorce me, which she might do anyway!
Give me a heads up when you decide to come down the East River as I have done that a bunch of times and is easy if you get the tides right. Do you have the Eldrige Tide & Pilot manual or equivalent? You will need it all the way to Carolinas. Check the current charts for the E. River.

One trick we used the last time I came down in June was to tie up for the night at the Minneford Yacht Basin docks on City Island while we waited for a favorable tide down the E. River the next AM. We left early enough so there was no charge. You don't want to do the E. River in the dark.
Another trick is that if you arrive at some marinas at dusk and leave at dawn you may also get a free night. Did that once at Liberty Landing.
One more is that there are mooring buoys at Pier 40 on the Manhattan side near the Holland Tunnel air shaft. That may very well also end up being a freebie this time of year.

On your Jonah's Charm site, saw that your OB can tip up out of the water, although the lazarette cover will not close all the way when it is. Have you modified the engine or the boat in any way to enable you to do this, or is that standard? What size (HP) is your engine? I have a Mercury 8HP 2-stroke long shaft on mine, and it will not tip up enough to get the prop out of the water.

Hi Wayne:

Saw your note on the B24.

The motor I have is a JOHNSON 15hp (electric everything). It's a great motor for the B24, in the sense that it can push through a significant chop without any strain or loss of speed.

Unfortunately, though, the lazerette lid won't close when the motor is tipped up out of the water. The stern has a cut-out to accommodate the longshaft when on a tilt. I've seen some B24's with a similar transom cut-out; but I've seen others without... mine came with it and has the cosmetic appearance of being original, rather than a modification by a former owner.
