Kent Narrows-The Bridges Restaurant

A fairly new restaurant in comparison to the more established eateries at the Narrows area. Has slips available by reservation on busy weekends with depth around 8 ft low tide.

Food is of a mixed European and American plan. Wine selection is fairly reasonable. Sunday brunch is very popular with the older established set.

Plenty of parking if one comes by car as it adjoins the Jetty restaurant(a locals' hangout)for space.

That's about a 60 mile haul down the bay for me, but if you were going to hold another Sailnet Rendezvous there, I would be up for it. Especially if you could work something out with the restaurant for dockage overnight. Hell, I'll even provide free entertainment.

Hi - Not sure about overnights at the Bridges Restaurant, but fortunately the Kent Island Yacht Club is right across the Narrows and offers great guest and reciprocal benefits. KIYC has good showers, Electric and Water as well as a tiki bar and pool - the club house offers good food and drink at reasonable prices.

For those not familiar with the narrows, Bridges slips can be a challenge to get into/out of as the current runs fairly strong n/s (approx 5-7 knots)and the slips are situated e/w. I've done it a couple of times (in our 30 foot Islander) and it helps to have a couple of extra hands on deck - not impossible, but its good to know.

Once there, the food is great, drinks reasonable and delicious and they have plenty of outside seating to enjoy the awesome sunsets!

Enjoy

We were there at the Narrows one day with the tide running with our Lab and I threw her ball in, watched her disappear riding the current. Fifteen minutes later, she showed back up with the ball. :D
Scared the hell out of me though!

We've stayed there a number of times as our club has reciprocal agreement at25 dollars a night.

Nice restaurant and bar view watching the people jockeying in the current waiting for the bridge openings

If one can 'not' anticipate/ judge/ use common sense or unable to handle a vessel with the changing tides and currents in a confined area such as tha Narrows..especially on a busy weekend/holiday..then one should not be in the Narrows...

You had to be there. Now, here's the rest of the story. I had called the bridge tender, he said he would open it as I approached and the next thing I knew he was not in the control room, but instead, outside talking on his cell phone and not paying any attention to my position at all. I called on the VHF and he was obviously too busy talking on his phone. Then I hit the air horn with 5 blasts and he waved to me. You have to love idiots like this. Then, as I was being rapidly swept toward the bridge and tried to back down, in desperation I shifted to forward, gunned the engine hard, and swung the boat around on it's own length to avert a nasty collision with the bridge. When he finally stopped talking on the phone and opened the bridge, I gave him Hell on the VHF and he never said a word. He was dead wrong and knew it. Like I said, you had to be there.

When it comes to handling boats in adverse conditions, well, I was likely doing this before you were pooping in your diaper. I've been on the water for more than 60 years aa3jy, and I'd venture a guess that I have been through Napps and Kent Narrows at least 300 or more times in my life under all conditions. I fished out of Napps Narrows for more than 40 years with Captain Buddy Harrison and Captain Jim Price. I've been through those narrows in the middle of the night, thunder storms, gales, you name it. I consider your statement above insulting at best.

current screams

The most I have ever seen is a little over 3 knots. Not exactly screaming

Bridge doesn't open on demand. Opens onthe half hour.

Chef- to be in all fairness..the current can exceed those you observed easily during Spring tides as I have sat at Piney Narrows Yacht Haven front office building and watched debris whiz by the their fuel docks. It can be exceptionally strong at times.. Within the bridge 'cattle shoot' portion it can be even greater along with unpredictable eddies if one doesn't have enough weigh on while traversing with the current.

Also openings can be 'on demand' after October 31 to March 31 during the off season with exceptions of commercial traffic and emergencies they can demand an opening at any time.

If someone has an accident with the bridge at the Narrows it will shut down for those that need the bridge due to an accident investigation as it is one of the busiest portions of the Bay's waterways...

huh?

So the title of the thread says Kent Narrows, the discussion is about Kent Narrows, references to Kent Island Yacht Club and you talk about its screaming current and bridge tender

Now you go exit stage right and say you were referring to Knapps Narrows a completely different spot.

Methinks you are drinking your homemade Kaluah

Well..overlooking the southern portion of the Narrows..as we are having lunch at The Bridges this afternoon..one can see no ice however on the north side it's solid ice as far as the eye can see.. Have to say it is a beautiful view over looking the northern portion Eastern Bay. On a side note the preparation of meals can be observed from your seating. There is inside and out side bar both covered and uncovered seating for 100 + patrons

Counted about 18 docks with available electric and water for $25/night.

Enjoying Restaurant Appreciation Week, runs from Feb. 28th to March 7th.
