I am a first time buyer and am enrolled in sailing courses. I will be living aboard as well. I am considering a Kirby 30 and a Catalina 27. The "Catalina Smile" makes me nervous and the deck reputation of the Kirby. I am more interested in the Kirby. Any thoughts.

I have scratched the Kirby. It has come down to 2 boats. A 79 Cat 27 Bermudan or a 68Islander 27. Both look to be dry and solid and are priced in the 5000 dollar range. It's early fall and I'm ready to buy in September so maybe some haggling may be in order.
