The time is nigh to clean and relube our Lewmar 65 electric winches. These babies have a whopping great spring that disconnects the electric motor when inserting the winch handle. I have little doubt that should this spring escape, it's energy could fling it to Miami from Grenada.
These are the older winches, chromed bronze and I have been unable to find any discussion of how to contain this spring when disassembling the winch.
Does anybody have first hand knowledge of disassembling one of these winches, particularly in regards containing to this spring?
Thanks.
