Hello,

Been trying to remove my windlass on my boat and can not see any type of clip holding the key on the shaft. I have looked on the youtubes and dont see a windlass like mine. The shaft sticks out of the bottom about 1/2" and you can clearly see the key. I dont know what model this thing is just know it's a lewmar from the survey. I attached a pick of the bottom of the shaft. I would really appreciate any help on removing the key to pull this sucker out. I suspect it's probably a piece of cake to remove if you know what your doing but it's driving me nuts!

Is this a vertical windlass or horizontal? Maybe it comes apart from the top?

Have you checked on Lewmar's site? They might have some literature of legacy products. Maybe give them a call. They are very helpful.

It's a vertical shaft windlass w/rope and chain gypsies..The motor is mounted horizontally to shaft in the chain locker. The top comes apart no problem but in order to pull the shaft out (From the top) and remove the motor I need to get that key out.

This lewmar is similar but my motor is larger and the shaft extends about 1/2" at the bottom and is a bit different, I don't see any spring loaded clamps. My boat is a 1982 so I am sure I got an oldie!

around the 10 min mark.

Ours is the same as the one in the youtube video, there is a C clip in a groove at the bottom of the shaft. I don't see a groove or any kind of retaining clip on yours though.
