Maybe this could have waited till Oct. Halloween . Anyhow were down below and we hear this sound , it sounds like someone (thing) is whacking the shrouds with a good size stick . It's loud . At first I thought a seagull crashed into the mast stays , so I went out to clean up dead bird , but nothing . Then Ms. Westi says you know Mark, you changed the name of the boat the boat doesn't like you anymore, it's telling you something . And I'm thinking haha good one very funny . So after years of this it got me thinking it only happens when we pump the head(but not all the time) the head draws from one of the fresh water tanks , so duh the vent is clogged right, the tank starts to implode vent finally gives way and we get this reverberation that gets our attention , it's a Alum. tank . I checked the vent line , all clear, there was a little water in it maybe a teaspoon full . So I'm totally up for some of your thoughts as long as you don't side with Ms. Westi , haha like that's gonna happen .

Yes Andrew , agreed disagree with the woman not wise . However Ms. Westi loves to mess with me .
Yes, fiendish delight in dealing with an inferior opponent. What's that line about engaging in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent ? She's probably got a line of string attached to a shroud which she tweaks every time you go for a dump. I can hear the bwahaha from here.

In all seriousness though ... I have no idea. One of our favourite anchorages is off an island that is a Mutton Bird colony. They come in low and fast at sundown with many a twing and a twang but they don't seem to synchronise it with the head.

Hey Mark

My water tanks will do that occasionally as they get emptied, and definitely as you fill em up. Do you get the same noise when filling, that would be the clew.

Otherwise, I'm agreeing with your wife, and even if this scientific explanation works, I'm agreeing with your wife. This principle is invariant, no matter what science tells us;)

That crazy noise only happens when flushing the head , but like I said not every time. Now that I'm thinking about it , it probably happens when the tank is getting low. When I'm filling the tank the vent that is in the foot well makes a glug glug sound and when the tank starts to get full the glug sounds gets faster and then I know the tank is full enough . The last time I filled the tank, when I got the cap off it made a big whoosh gluging sound so I thought well it's obvious the vent tube is clogged but that was not the case . The vent tube is fairly long and has some low spots . I need to look at that .
