When I was a kid, my dad and uncle used to use a fishing line with a shaped wooden paddle (i guess that's what I'd call it anyway) that would sink when being towed and once it had a certain amount of fish on would float to the surface...does anyone know what the shape of the paddle should be...?

The paddle is a used to bring the line down to a specific depth and they're commercially available at any big fishing equipment store.

Don't think so, that seems to keep the float a set direction to the flow, i think sailing dog has the idea, but i can't find one online...
